Outspell unblocked: play Outspell online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.

Outspell is a crossword-style tile game in which you play words on a grid against a computer opponent, or on your own in a practice game. The copy here is an HTML5 build served from Arkadium's game network, and its code includes an Arkadium logo. The basic loop is simple: draw letter tiles from a bag, lay them on the board and score more than your rival.

How to play

Drag tiles from your rack onto the board to spell a word, then click Submit. The first word of the game has to pass through the centre of the board. After that, each new word must connect to letters already in play, sit in a single straight line across or down, and have no gaps. Words are checked against the game's dictionary, and anything it does not know is refused with a message.

Four buttons give you options when you are stuck. Recall pulls placed tiles back, Shuffle mixes up your rack, Exchange swaps tiles for new ones from the bag at the cost of your turn, and Pass skips your go. A counter shows how many tiles are left in the bag. There is also a Dictionary window where you can type letters on your keyboard, or erase them with backspace, to look up words.

Scoring and bonus cells

Each letter has its own point value. Coloured cells raise the score: blue cells are letter bonuses and red cells are word bonuses, in double and triple strengths. The best scores come from crossing existing words so that one play spells several words at once, and from adding letters to words already on the board.

Difficulty and modes

  • Easy, Medium and Hard: choose how strong the opponent is. While it plans its move you see "Your opponent is thinking...".
  • Expert: listed as needing a sign-in before you can play it.
  • Practice (Play Solo): no opponent; the game ends when you run out of tiles.

A game against the computer ends when someone uses all their tiles or when nobody can find a word and both sides pass. If you leave mid-game, Outspell offers to restore the game in progress next time. Accessibility settings include colour-blind display options.

Boosts

  • Word Clue highlights cells and tiles that will spell a higher-value word.
  • Cell Radar shows every cell your tiles could fill.
  • Wild Card turns one of your tiles into a wildcard.
  • Free Swap exchanges your tiles without losing the turn.

Boosts cannot be used on your first move, and the game offers them in return for watching a video.

Tips

  • Aim for the red word-bonus cells with long words and the blue letter-bonus cells with your highest-value letters.
  • Use Exchange when your rack is hopeless, but remember it costs a turn; Free Swap does the same for free.
  • Check a doubtful word in the Dictionary window before you submit it.

Questions about Outspell

Is Outspell unblocked at school?

Outspell runs in an ordinary browser tab from crossyroad.me, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

How do you play Outspell?

Drag tiles from your rack onto the board to form a word and click Submit. The first word must cross the centre, and later words must connect to letters already on the board in one straight line.

What do the blue and red cells mean in Outspell?

Blue cells are letter bonuses and red cells are word bonuses, and both come in double and triple strengths.

Can I play Outspell without an opponent?

Yes. Practice mode lets you play solo, and the game ends when you run out of tiles.

What does Exchange do?

Exchange swaps your tiles for new ones from the bag, but it uses up your turn. The Free Swap boost does the same without losing the turn.
