Spades unblocked: play Spades online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.

Spades is the four-player partnership trick-taking card game, here in a free browser version from TreeCardGames that works on desktop and mobile. You sit at the bottom of the table and play with the computer partner opposite you, Patricia in the North seat, against Robert (West) and Michael (East). The game uses one standard 52-card deck, with the Ace as the highest card and the Two as the lowest.

How to play

Everything is done with clicks or taps. Each player gets thirteen cards. Before any card is played, everyone bids the number of tricks they expect to take, and the bids of the two partners are added together into a team target. The bidding board offers Nil and the numbers one to thirteen. You can also bid blind, which means choosing your number before pressing "See Cards".

Play goes clockwise. The first card of a trick sets the suit, and the others must follow it if they can. A player with no card in that suit may play anything; spades are trumps, and the first spade played this way "breaks" spades so they can be led afterwards. The highest spade wins the trick, or the highest card of the led suit when no spade appears.

Scoring

ResultPoints
Team makes its bidplus 10 per trick bid
Team falls shortminus 10 per trick bid
Each trick over the bidplus 1 point and one bag
Reaching 10 bagsminus 100
Nil made / failedplus 100 / minus 100
Blind Nil made / failedplus 200 / minus 200
Blind bid made / shortplus 100 / minus 100

Both partners bidding Nil together is worth 400 if it works, and a Double Blind Nil is worth 800 and wins the game outright. A team wins by reaching 500 points, and it loses straight away if it sinks to minus 200.

Options

The options include a game level setting; the game's language file lists Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. An appearance menu lets you change the card set, the card back and the table background, and a Scores screen shows each round's bids, tricks, bags and points as well as winning and losing streaks.

Tips

  • Bid close to what you can really take. Extra tricks become bags, and ten bags cost a hundred points.
  • Check your partner's bid before you bid. Your numbers are added together, so the team target is what counts.
  • A Nil bid fails as soon as you take a trick, which turns a hundred-point bonus into a hundred-point loss, so it suits hands with few high cards.
  • Keep an eye on the score near the end. A team near minus 200 is close to losing, while a blind bid can win or lose a hundred points in a single hand.

Questions about Spades

Is Spades unblocked at school?

Spades runs in an ordinary browser tab from crossyroad.me, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

How do you win at Spades?

The first team to reach 500 points wins. A team that drops to minus 200 loses the game immediately.

What is a bag in Spades?

A bag is each trick a team takes beyond its combined bid. Each one is worth a single point, but collecting ten bags costs the team 100 points.

What does Blind Nil mean?

It is a bid of zero tricks made before you look at your cards. Making it earns 200 points, and taking any trick costs 200.

Who are the players in this Spades game?

You play with Patricia, your partner in the North seat, against Robert in the West and Michael in the East.
