What Paint Strike is

Paint Strike is a third-person team shooter in which the ammunition is paint. Two teams, one yellow and one purple, run around a small arena splattering their colour over the floor, the walls and each other. The in-match screen shows a timer, a kill counter, a head count for each colour and your money. A match ends on either a win panel or a fail panel. Paint Strike came out in October 2022 and runs in a browser on both desktop and mobile.

How to play

On a computer the controls are the familiar shooter set: WASD to move, the mouse to aim and the left mouse button to shoot. On a touch screen the game switches to two on-screen sticks, one for moving and one for aiming and firing.

The aim is to spread your team's colour as widely as possible and to knock enemies out with paint balls. Every win and every kill counts toward your earnings.

Weapons and the shop

Money from matches is spent in the main-menu shop, which is split into three tabs: Weapons, Hats and Shoes. Hats and shoes change how your character looks. The weapon list in the game code contains:

• SMG – the fastest fire rate of the set, but the shortest range
• Shotgun – a wide cone of pellets with each shot
• AK47 – a rifle with no spread, so shots go straight
• AR15 – the longest bullet range
• Grenade launcher – lobs a burst of paint shots per trigger pull, each with a wide splat

Each gun has its own fire rate, bullet range, spread and splat size, so the same arena plays differently depending on what you carry. The grenade launcher, for example, has the heaviest damage per shot and the widest splat radius, but it fires slowly and its shots fall short of the AR15's range.

Arenas

The game files include three separate level models for its arenas.

Tips

• Your profile keeps count of kills, deaths, match wins and match losses.
• Pick a gun for the job: the AR15 reaches furthest, the shotgun covers the widest area per shot, and the grenade launcher leaves the biggest splat.
• On mobile, keep your thumb on the aiming stick; it handles both aiming and firing.
