About Bloxorz

Bloxorz comes from Damien Clarke of DX Interactive and belongs to the Flash era of browser games. The version here is the original Flash file played back through Ruffle, an emulator that lets old Flash games run in a current browser without a plugin, and the DX Interactive link still sits in the game's credits.

Your piece is a single upright slab resting on a patch of tiles. Each level has a square hole somewhere on it, and the job is to tip the block over and over until it drops into that hole without rolling it off the edge.

How to play

Use the up, down, left and right arrow keys to tip the block one step in that direction. The block is twice as long as it is wide, so each move changes how it sits: standing upright on one tile, or lying flat across two. Planning a route is mostly about getting the block into the right position at the right moment.

Later levels split the block into two smaller cubes. While split, you swap control from one cube to the other and move them one at a time; bring them side by side and they join back into a full block.

Switches and special tiles

There are 33 levels, and new pieces keep arriving as they go on:

  • Round switches (soft switches) work however the block lands on them, lying down or standing up.
  • X-shaped switches (hard switches) only react when the block stands upright on them.
  • Split switches, drawn as a pair of brackets, teleport the block and break it into the two small cubes.
  • Orange tiles are fragile: they hold a block lying flat, but give way if the block stands on its end.

Switches set off different changes on the board, so look at what moved or appeared each time you press one.

Tips

  • Write down the passcode shown in the top right of each level. Keying that code in on a later visit returns you to the same stage.
  • The small cubes are too light for anything but the round switches, so use the full block for X-shaped switches.
  • Before stepping onto an orange tile, check whether your next move would leave the block upright on it.
  • When stuck, work backwards from the hole and ask which tile the block has to be on, and in which position, one move before the finish.

Bloxorz is a keyboard game made for computers; it was not designed for touch screens.

Questions about Bloxorz

Is Bloxorz unblocked at school?

Bloxorz runs in an ordinary browser tab from crossyroad.me, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

Who is behind Bloxorz?

Damien Clarke of DX Interactive. It started life as a Flash game, and this copy plays the original file through the Ruffle emulator.

Which keys move the block?

The four arrow keys. Each press tips the block over by one step, so watch that it never ends up hanging off the platform.

How long is Bloxorz?

It has 33 stages. Soft and hard switches, split switches and fragile orange tiles are introduced along the way.

Can I skip back to a stage I already reached?

Yes. Every stage displays a code in its top right corner; keep a note of it and key it in on a later visit to return there.
