OXXO unblocked: play OXXO online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.

OXXO is a block-matching puzzle made by Hamster On Coke Games, a one-person studio run by a designer who calls himself Mike. His earlier puzzle titles include Scalak, Zenge, PUSH and Art Of Gravity. OXXO reached Steam on 7 August 2019 for Windows, Mac and Linux, where it is filed as a casual indie game. What loads here is a Unity WebGL version served from Kongregate's game servers.

One instruction, then you are on your own

The Steam listing sums up the whole objective in a single line: put similar blocks together, because they like each other. That is all the game tells you. There is no tutorial level and no text box explaining a new piece when it appears. You learn by poking at the board and watching what happens.

The other promise on the store page is that you cannot lose. No move counter runs out, and no puzzle ends in a fail screen. A level is finished when the matching blocks sit together; until then, you keep trying.

Thinking in three dimensions

Most block puzzles stay flat. OXXO asks you to rotate pieces and to use all three axes of the board, and the developer describes the rotation as unlike anything in other games. A block that looks out of reach from the front can often be turned so that its marked face lines up with a neighbour.

What the build contains

Looking inside the WebGL files shows how the puzzles are organised. Level groups are named after the mechanic they test, which gives a fair preview of what turns up as you go:

  • Connectors – line pieces with bends and end caps that link one symbol to another.
  • Movable planes – sections of the board that slide along rails, so the ground itself changes shape.
  • Buttons – switches that appear in sets of levels built across more than one plane.

A small circle in the top-left corner opens the level menu: a grid of square buttons, twelve to a page, with an arrow to the next page and toggles for sound and music. The menu also carries a note that more levels are available on the developer's own site.

Controls

OXXO is played with the mouse. Press on a tile and drag it to slide it across the board; the first puzzle shows just two marked white tiles on a small yellow board, so you start by dragging one toward the other. No keyboard input is needed.

Getting unstuck

  • Treat every new object as a toy first. Because nothing can fail, the fastest way to understand a connector or a sliding plane is to move it around with no goal in mind.
  • Look at a stuck block from another angle. Rotation is the core of OXXO, and the answer is often a turn you have not tried.
  • When a group of levels introduces a mechanic, the first stages in that group tend to be the clearest examples of it. Replaying them can help on the harder ones.
  • Pause and come back. The designer frames OXXO as a relaxing game, and a fresh look solves more puzzles than forcing moves.

If you want more after this version, the full release is sold on Steam.

Questions about OXXO

Is OXXO unblocked at school?

OXXO runs in an ordinary browser tab from crossyroad.me, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

Who made OXXO?

OXXO was made by Hamster On Coke Games, a one-person label run by a designer named Mike. His back catalogue includes the puzzle games Zenge, Scalak, Art Of Gravity and PUSH.

Can you lose in OXXO?

No. The developer states that you cannot lose. There is no move limit or fail screen, so you keep working on a puzzle until the matching blocks are grouped.

Does OXXO have a tutorial?

No. The game deliberately skips tutorials. You discover each new mechanic, such as connectors, sliding planes and buttons, by experimenting with it.

When did OXXO come out?

The full game was released on Steam on 7 August 2019 for Windows, Mac and Linux. This page runs a WebGL version hosted on Kongregate.
