About Idle Breakout

Idle Breakout is an incremental brick-breaker by Kodiqi. It first came out in January 2019, received an update that March, and is available in the browser as well as on Windows and Android. The idea borrows the bricks and bouncing balls of classic Breakout, but there are no lives and no way to lose: you buy balls that bounce around on their own, and the cash they earn from broken bricks pays for more and better balls.

How to play

Every brick carries a number showing how many hits it still needs. At the very start you click bricks yourself to chip that number down. The cash you collect goes on your first ball, and from then on the screen keeps working without you. A bar at the top shows your money, the level and the menus for buying and upgrading balls. Clear the field to finish the level and move on to the next board.

Ball types

Ball	What it does
Basic Ball	The cheap standard ball that bounces off walls and breaks bricks.
Plasma Ball	Deals splash damage to the bricks around the one it hits.
Sniper Ball	Rebounds off the walls straight toward the closest brick.
Scatter Ball	Breaks up into a spray of smaller one-hit balls.
Cannonball	A heavy ball that ploughs through a line of bricks.
Poison Ball	Infects bricks so that they take extra damage.
Snow Ball	Gets stronger and faster each time it bounces.
Money Ball	Weak against bricks but pays out far more cash per hit.

Bosses, prestige and skills

Every few levels a boss brick appears. The bosses have pun names such as Block Head, Blocktopus, Count Blockula, Blockbeard and Sherblock, and some fight back: a boss can put a time limit on the level, freeze one of your balls for a few seconds or raise a shield that blocks damage. Beating a boss for the first time earns a Skill Point.

Prestige resets your run in exchange for gold, which buys permanent upgrades and unlocks the VAUS Laser, an automatic laser that damages bricks without needing a ball. Skill Points go into a skill tree with a tab for each ball type. Its perks include letting a ball type always damage Black Bricks, giving it a small chance of damaging every brick at once, boosting offline cash earnings, and stripping bosses of their laser protection.

Other features

• The game saves your progress, and you can export your save as text and import it again on another browser.
• Gold Bricks appear from time to time and pay extra when broken.
• A Numbers Only mode replaces the graphics with plain stats: level, bricks remaining and balls active.
• Random ball facts appear on screen, and a long-term milestone for total bricks broken unlocks a set of new sound effects.

Tips

• Spending every coin on low-level upgrades delays the stronger balls, so work toward Plasma and Sniper Balls early.
• Plasma and Scatter Balls hit many bricks at once, while Sniper Balls are the ones for hunting down the last isolated bricks on a board.
• Power-ups can be used only once each, so keep them for boss levels where progress stalls.
• Prestige once progress slows: the gold upgrades carry over, so every later run moves faster.
