About this Yahtzee game

The version on this page is a Playtouch dice game; its title screen reads "Yatzy Yam's!" and its full name in the game files is Yatzy Yahtzee Yams. You roll five dice, keep the ones you like, and fill in a scorecard one row per turn. Everything is done with the mouse, or by tapping if you are on a touch screen. A flag button on the menu lets you change the language, and a speaker button turns the sound off.

Setting up a game

After pressing the green play button you choose how many people are playing. Left and right arrow buttons change the count shown on a large die, and the label switches from PLAYER to PLAYERS when there is more than one. The scorecard has columns marked P-1 to P-4, so a table of up to four can share one device, passing it around as the header changes from PLAYER 1 to PLAYER 2 and so on.

How a turn works

  1. Press the green ROLL button under the dice column on the right.
  2. Click any die you want to keep. A held die gets a dark frame and stays put when you roll again.
  3. Roll again if you want to. You get three rolls per turn; after the third, the ROLL button stops responding.
  4. Pick a row on your column of the scorecard. While you decide, every open row shows the points it would give for the current dice, so you can compare options before committing.

Once you choose a row, the score is written in, your total updates, and play passes to the next player.

The scorecard

SectionRows
UpperOnes, Twos, Threes, Fours, Fives, Sixes, then Sum and Bonus
Lower3 of a kind, 4 of a kind, Full House, Sm. Straight, Lg. Straight, Chance, YATZY
Bottom lineTOTAL

In the upper section a row counts only the dice showing that number, so three ones put 3 in the Ones box and a single five puts 5 in Fives. Chance adds up all five dice whatever they show, and 3 of a kind does the same once three dice match. If your dice do not suit a row, its preview shows 0.

Tips

  • Read the previews after every roll; they do the arithmetic for you and make it easy to spot the best open row.
  • Hold matching dice early in a turn if you are chasing 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind or YATZY.
  • Chance takes the sum of any five dice, so it makes a useful fallback for a turn where the dice fit nothing else.

Questions about Yahtzee

Is Yahtzee unblocked at school?

Yahtzee runs in an ordinary browser tab from crossyroad.me, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

How many rolls do you get per turn in this Yahtzee game?

Three. Click dice between rolls to hold them; after the third roll you must pick a row on the scorecard.

Can several people play together?

Yes. Choose the number of players with the arrow buttons before the game starts. The scorecard has columns P-1 to P-4, and players take turns on the same device.

How do I know what a row is worth?

After each roll, every open row on your column shows the score it would give for the current dice. Click the row you want to lock that score in.

Who made this version?

It is a Playtouch game. The title screen calls it Yatzy Yam's, and the game files name it Yatzy Yahtzee Yams.
